What exactly is Feeble-Minded, Today?

Question

WARNING - Has two curse words in it - What a donkey is called.

Sad video too, but the truth of what happened there - A lot of things stay with you depending on how you are raised, what is stated to you, and done to you too. Sad, but true.

-

“Now we exhort you, brethren, warn them that are unruly, comfort the feebleminded, support the weak, be patient toward all men.” - 1 Thessalonians 5:14

-

Are the Feebleminded those unable to understand? Are they ones who are under the age of accountability?

I ask because of these videos:

Does this mean feebleminded is Childlike or something?

" Facial expression is a very valuable aide. The individuals possessing dull, stupid, indifferent and apathetic competences should be investigated more thoroughly for feeblemindedness." Dr. Howard Knox

Looking at the comments section (from 1st video) I asked a very similar question 4 years ago:

Quote

KJV Vancouver4 years ago

What about men and women who are mentally handicapped, to the degree where many would consider it impossible for them to understand the idea of sinning against God and understanding the gospel etc, are such people in a similar state of un-accountability as young children?

I think if one can't understand it (salvation) well enough to explain it even in the simplest of terms, that's a good indicator; discounting people that are just unable to communicate (deaf/mute etc) but do understand.

"Feebleminded" only appears once in the KJV which you showed;

2Ch_28:15  And the men which were expressed by name rose up, and took the captives, and with the spoil clothed all that were naked among them, and arrayed them, and shod them, and gave them to eat and to drink, and anointed them, and carried all the feeble of them upon asses, and brought them to Jericho, the city of palm trees, to their brethren: then they returned to Samaria.
Neh_4:2  And he spake before his brethren and the army of Samaria, and said, What do these feeble Jews? will they fortify themselves? will they sacrifice? will they make an end in a day? will they revive the stones out of the heaps of the rubbish which are burned?

WEBSTERSDICTIONARY1828.COM

Websters Dictionary 1828 - Webster's Dictionary 1828 - Feeble
Quote

Feeble
1. Weak; destitute of much physical strength; as, infants are feeble at their birth.
2. Infirm; sickly; debilitated by disease.
3. Debilitated by age or decline of life.
4. Not full or loud; as a feeble voice or sound.
5. Wanting force or vigor; as feeble efforts.
6. Not bright or strong; faint; imperfect; as feeble light; feeble colors.
7. Not strong or vigorous; as feeble powers of mind.
8. Not vehement or rapid; slow; as feeble motion.

Weakminded might be more appropriate than simpleminded, as (just my opinion)
simpleminded would seem more like intelligence / knowledge whereas
weakminded could be more of like what we would consider a mental handicap condition today.

  • Every reference to simple:

Psa_19:7  The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple.
Psa_116:6  The LORD preserveth the simple: I was brought low, and he helped me.
Psa_119:130  The entrance of thy words giveth light; it giveth understanding unto the simple.
Pro_1:4  To give subtilty to the simple, to the young man knowledge and discretion.
Pro_1:22  How long, ye simple ones, will ye love simplicity? and the scorners delight in their scorning, and fools hate knowledge?
Pro_1:32  For the turning away of the simple shall slay them, and the prosperity of fools shall destroy them.
Pro_7:7  And beheld among the simple ones, I discerned among the youths, a young man void of understanding,
Pro_8:5  O ye simple, understand wisdom: and, ye fools, be ye of an understanding heart.
Pro_9:4  Whoso is simple, let him turn in hither: as for him that wanteth understanding, she saith to him,
Pro_9:13  A foolish woman is clamorous: she is simple, and knoweth nothing.
Pro_9:16  Whoso is simple, let him turn in hither: and as for him that wanteth understanding, she saith to him,
Pro_14:15  The simple believeth every word: but the prudent man looketh well to his going.
Pro_14:18  The simple inherit folly: but the prudent are crowned with knowledge.
Pro_19:25  Smite a scorner, and the simple will beware: and reprove one that hath understanding, and he will understand knowledge.
Pro_21:11  When the scorner is punished, the simple is made wise: and when the wise is instructed, he receiveth knowledge.
Pro_22:3  A prudent man foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself: but the simple pass on, and are punished.
Pro_27:12  A prudent man foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself; but the simple pass on, and are punished.
Eze_45:20  And so thou shalt do the seventh day of the month for every one that erreth, and for him that is simple: so shall ye reconcile the house.
Rom_16:18  For they that are such serve not our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly; and by good words and fair speeches deceive the hearts of the simple.
Rom_16:19  For your obedience is come abroad unto all men. I am glad therefore on your behalf: but yet I would have you wise unto that which is good, and simple concerning evil.

  • Also interesting in the OT regarding Nebuchadnezzar:

Let his heart be changed from man's, and let a beast's heart be given unto him; and let seven times pass over him.
Daniel 4:16 (New versions seem to change 'heart' to 'mind')

And at the end of the days I Nebuchadnezzar lifted up mine eyes unto heaven, and mine understanding returned unto me, and I blessed the most High, and I praised and honoured him that liveth for ever, whose dominion is an everlasting dominion, and his kingdom is from generation to generation:
Daniel 4:34

At the same time my reason returned unto me; and for the glory of my kingdom, mine honour and brightness returned unto me; and my counsellors and my lords sought unto me; and I was established in my kingdom, and excellent majesty was added unto me.
Daniel 4:36

  • There is also the KJV "lunatick"

Mat_4:24  And his fame went throughout all Syria: and they brought unto him all sick people that were taken with divers diseases and torments, and those which were possessed with devils, and those which were lunatick, and those that had the palsy; and he healed them.
Mat_17:15  Lord, have mercy on my son: for he is lunatick, and sore vexed: for ofttimes he falleth into the fire, and oft into the water.

Why are you looking at new versions?

-

1 Thessalonians 5:14 " Now we exhort you, brethren, warn them that are unruly, comfort the feebleminded, support the weak, be patient toward all men."

-

Comfort makes sense now that you mention the about.

-

-

What does:

“How long, ye simple ones, will ye love simplicity? and the scorners delight in their scorning, and fools hate knowledge?” - Proverbs 1:22 KJV

^

Does this mean they choose to be simple, ignore God's Word - Aka - Similar to those who believe "Faith Alone  - Compared to Today?"

I look at new versions occasionally to see in what way things are perverted, they usually attack things of importance.

The KJV certain times emphasizes a heart - mind connection, I guess the new versions, less-so (in error).

Proverbs 1:23-28 KJV
[23] Turn you at my reproof: behold, I will pour out my spirit unto you, I will make known my words unto you. [24] Because I have called, and ye refused; I have stretched out my hand, and no man regarded; [25] But ye have set at nought all my counsel, and would none of my reproof: [26] I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your fear cometh; [27] When your fear cometh as desolation, and your destruction cometh as a whirlwind; when distress and anguish cometh upon you. [28] Then shall they call upon me, but I will not answer; they shall seek me early, but they shall not find me:

Considering the [28] “call upon me” is a lot like the current “Christians” who refuse to: [Romans 10:13 KJV [13] For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.] And instead “just believe” so I’d say yes.

Special needs aren't always one form of "disability" form. - Least what I think.
-
I am labeled special needs because of learning difficulties and speech - Plus, I got tagged with autism/ add last year.

I learned that people like to label (diagnosed) people with words. -> ( I Learned this earlier this year by Denlinger).

Page 3 Read Understanding Myself from the story Jesus Saves. by Dawn_LT with 24 reads. changedlife, jesussaves, christiancommunity. - I can become anxious when...

-

At the end of the writing above, I tell one to think for themselves.
This one is a bit about me - Correlates a bit into the "Understanding Myself" story too.

Read Not Russian? Then What? from the story Jesus Saves. by Dawn_LT with 16 reads. jesussaves, changedlife, christiancommunity. I have had thoughts of my birth...

I Am Russian for I was born there, but overall the results were just:
- East European, with a hint of Finnish.

+

I know the test isn't dead on for it is only 1 section of DNA that they check via saliva. However, East Euro doesn't mean Russian since I've looked at other folks tests before that state " Russian" or At least Highlighted Russia while mine Highlighted what is known as "East European." - Interesting. - Though, as many Russian stated before - I may not look Russian, but if I was born in Russia, then I am Russian.

-

This one also Correlates into -> "Understanding Myself"

Read Valentina Vladimirovna Letavina (ლეტავინა?) from the story Jesus Saves. by Dawn_LT with 8 reads. christiancommunity, changedlife, jesussaves. Not going to...

I met a family member of mine, which is cool, and she has helped me a lot to track down at least - Maybe - my mother. She and I look so alike, too; it is Crazy. - Was a Cool finding, for I found a third to Fourth cousin who looks a bit like me. We have a great grandfather in relation.

I Am Russian for I was born there, but overall the results were just:
- East European, with a hint of Finnish.

Feeble minded is a person that lacks the ability to have faith because they are always concerned about something and get overwhelmed and thrown off with philosophy and lies.

Someone who is gullible that needs help not falling for vain deceit.

They have faith to be saved. But are very weak.

That's why they need to be comforted.
