Question on alms
As for laying up treasures in heaven (Matthew 6:20)
How would you go about doing your alms, because doing alms counts as rewards when we get to heaven. Would giving money to the homeless count? And or donations of sorts? I'm guessing it doesn't matter if they're saved or lost??
"Take heed that ye do not your alms before men, to be seen of them: otherwise ye have no reward of your Father which is in heaven." Matt. 6:1
I just talked to my husband Jeremy Carter about this and giving is to be towards our brothers and sisters and towards ministries that are doing the work of the Lord. Giving to the poor is a dead work towards men. We should not give to those who hate God.
Here is the scripture reference he gave me to post.
2 Chronicles 19:2 KJV
And Jehu the son of Hanani the seer went out to meet him, and said to king Jehoshaphat, Shouldest thou help the ungodly, and love them that hate the Lord ? therefore is wrath upon thee from before the Lord .
I've always had a bad feeling about giving the homeless money and heard bad stories about it. I would prefer to offer to give them a ride to a restaurant, the grocery store, or just giving them food. I've heard stories of folks giving homeless people a bag of fast food, only to have the homeless throw it away in front of them. Most are bums that want liquor and tobacco. Always go with buying what they need to be prudent.
I reckon donating old clothes and stuff would be a good idea too.
Whatever you give, always hand them a few tracts as well.
Justin, I'm sorry I wish I would have posted earlier. These would be some of the best alms you could do, not including donating to KJVM.
And, yes giving to the homeless counts, just remember they could spend it unwisely. However if they ask you personally you should help them, just hand them a tract too:
#1 My personal choice
Chick Prison Fund (Extremely effective tract method [probably highest rate of soul-winning]): https://www.chick.com/information/show-all-articles?topic=Prison+Ministry
Go to https://www.chick.com and scroll to the bottom, see the phone number? call them and place an order of at least 1 tract then ask them to charge your desired amount to provide tracts to prisoners via their Prison Fund through Mission Possible (Goes all over America), might as well do during a larger order if your buying Chick tracts regularly. Of course prisoners more easily recognize they aren't good people, they also have less hope. The latter more so prisoners than in jail.
Donate to Fellowshiptractleague (7.50 pays to make approx 1000 tracts, less than 7.50 pays to ship 1000) Source: https://tinyurl.com/y6kvxbw5 (+ Math)
Donate to Chick mission fund (100% goes to tracts and sending them abroad [including Israel], not tax-deductible but efficient) (1000 costs approx 105 plus S+H)

I know these are not KJVO based charities but you can give good gifts and alms through these.
Compassion Intl (Gifts)
Your gift covers the cost of delivery of a complete system, including:
- A filtration system
- Two buckets
- Training on how to maintain the system so it provides a lifetime of safe water
- A fruit tree typically provides enough food for an average family, plus extra to sell at the market.
- Families will have the opportunity to receive lessons in land conservation, tree farming management, disease and pest control, and more.
Food for the poor (Gifts)
Feed a family for a month, some destitute parents rely on finding rotten, discarded food in garbage dumps to feed their little ones. But your gift will provide nutritious food for a hungry family.
Feed a child for one year, your donation will offer a yearlong gift by providing a hungry child with "daily bread" for an entire year.
One fruit tree, Your gift of a fruit-bearing tree will provide hungry families with a nutritious and sustainable source of food and additional income. Mango, avocado and breadfruit trees not only provide healthy food; these trees also offer welcoming shade and help combat deforestation.
Water wells for Africa
Each well serves 2,000 people. That means it costs $4.00 to give a person clean water and help them live long and live better. Is that expensive? Not by any means. For every latte you order at Star Bucks, WWFA could use that money to supply a person with clean water for 20 years.

Verses on giving
Philippians 4:17 (KJV) (Donations to FTL, Chick, Etc, will get you rewards too)
“Not because I desire a gift: but I desire fruit that may abound to your account.”
Matthew 19:21 (KJV) (not telling you to sell everything, just showing some Scripture about the poor and alms)
“Jesus said unto him, If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me.”
One of my favorite verses on giving:
Acts 20:35 (KJV)
“I have shewed you all things, how that so labouring ye ought to support the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he said, It is more blessed to give than to receive.”
