Hello fellow Christians do i right a question here?, are christians supposed to be suffering from insomnia? It seems to be getting worse as I get older, I thought Christians have the peace of God, but I'm starting to think that my trouble sleeping is due to a thorn in the flesh to keep me near to God, could this be true? I've always had this problem but it just seems to be getting worse with age, what do you thin

There is the spiritual aspect and the physical aspect, they both apply.

-If you are in very good physical health but have spiritual problems, or uncertainty, that can keep you awake.

-Also, you may feel very healthy spiritually, having good fellowship with God, but be suffering from poor physical health either by 'chance' or consequence of sin, which can keep you awake.

Or in the worst cases, both.

Without more information it's just a guess but the way you say it's getting worse over time would seem to suggest physical, as spiritually the process of sanctification, if one is truly saved, should cause us to be more at peace over time and not less... closer to God; not that I haven't spent nights awake lamenting the state of the world, the depths of sin (my own included) that God suffers to take place until the next dispensation, but that type of thing is more situational not necessarily and inescapable everyday thing, something we choose to do... like an emotional fellowship with God, Jesus Christ.

It could be something as simple as vitamin D, it's so important God designed us such that we get it right from our skin and sunlight, but seeing as people wear so much clothing and spend so much time indoor's or otherwise "protected" from the sun they just don't get it, it is also very hard to acquire by diet, you also absorb less in general as you age.

Seeing as how you are posting this in the depths of winter (unless you are southern hemisphere)  that is another clue, perhaps you also live at a high latitude...

Many here have quite an interest in natural health and healing by providing the body, God's design, what it was designed to have to function properly.

Many here are also good at assisting with spiritual problems, but that would require it's own type of assessment.

Seeing as how it's fast approaching midnight for me, I better try to get some myself.

I pray you will sleep soundly.

Pro 3:13  Happy is the man that findeth wisdom, and the man that getteth understanding.
...
Pro 3:24  When thou liest down, thou shalt not be afraid: yea, thou shalt lie down, and thy sleep shall be sweet.

Ecc 5:12  The sleep of a labouring man is sweet, whether he eat little or much: but the abundance of the rich will not suffer him to sleep.

1Ti 5:17  Let the elders that rule well be counted worthy of double honour, especially they who labour in the word and doctrine.

Fully agree with the above answer by @vancouver . It could be physical or spiritual. If you're in good fellowship you can probably say it's physical.

Can I recommend Valerian root tea (makes you sleepy) before you go for something "artificial" like melatonin sleep aid? Most grocery stores sell this tea.

Also, exercising before bed can make you tired, naturally, as well.

Are you drinking coffee before bed? When do you go to bed, and do you go to bed at the same time every night? I have found that drinking chamomile thirty minutes before bed helps me. What really helps though is having a routine every day for bed. Get off the computer, tablet, phone, etc. about an hour before bed and read the word. Have some good herbal tea like chamomile, no sugar or honey. You can get around the taste of unsweetened tea by adding a bag of good strong peppermint tea in as well. Go to bed at the same time every night and get up at the same time each day. Give yourself an extra hour to get to sleep. It will not be easy, but you need to get your boy into a routine. Eventually it should get better, it did for me. I still have nights where it can take what seems to be hours to go to sleep, or wake up and can't go back to sleep, force yourself to lay there and sleep or get up and read the word for a bit then go back to bed.  There is also the aspect of spiritual attack, that will require being in the word daily, prayer, and staying away from sin, etc. Even then you may be attacked spiritually, but that is just something that will happen. Especially if you are doing what you should be doing. I hope this helps, don't give up, you will find what works for you eventually.

Hello, thank for getting back 2 me. I don’t think its neither, I have a hard time dealing with stress, I m very anxious person. I tend 2 stay up for days without sleeping when I try to apply for a job or when I leave somewhere sometimes. That seems to trigger it. Whenever I try to do something, my mind will not stop and I’ll be up for days. I took it up with God and I try my very best to live right as I should, I don’t believe it’s because I’m not living right, it’s just something that I always had a problem with, I’m just anxious and my mind races. I tried the herbal teas, the melatonins and the pharmaceutical pills and I always go to sleep (or try) every night at 9 pm and I’ve been doing that for About 2 years yes I’ve tried all durning my times of stress and nothing helps. I just got to wait on God, I don’t understand what’s happening but by God’s grace I will be able to stand until he shows me what he’s doing in my life.. thank u all for ur answers,
