Illusion is a good word for it. I know the tech companies have done it and so have machine tool companies. They keep the names as a front, but the reality is just a few companies control everything. The solution is to buy local/small and to DIY for everything including food.

I also dropped out of the "buy new and buy often game". I find it saves a lot of money, and sometimes low-tech is better anyway. I won't buy a new car or truck, I do not want to be tracked. But I have the skills to maintain a vehicle. It is my belief that we need to really start pulling away from the world. I do not mean go "all Jim Jones", but we need some more separation.

Just my thoughts.

1 John 2:15-17

15 Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.

16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.

17 And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.

Romans 12:2 - And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what [is] that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

John 17

13 And now come I to thee; and these things I speak in the world, that they might have my joy fulfilled in themselves.

14 I have given them thy word; and the world hath hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.

15 I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that thou shouldest keep them from the evil.

16 They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.

Ephesians 5:16 - Redeeming the time, because the days are evil.

Matthew 6

31 Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed?

32 (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.

33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

34 Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.

Proverbs 23:3 - Be not desirous of his dainties: for they are deceitful meat.

True, the least we can do is live in this world, but not be of this world.  We can live simply and not desire the mainstream things that are offered to us by the world.  The King James Bible is a good example -- Something priceless, yet decidely low-tech and not valued by the world, in the slightest.  Thank you Jesus, for your precious, Holy word.

1 Peter 1:

15But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation; 16Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.

17And if ye call on the Father, who without respect of persons judgeth according to every man's work, pass the time of your sojourning here in fear:

pass the time of your sojourning here in FEAR. I've heard the "fear" being sooo down played. I believe when the scriptures say fear, they mean FEAR.
